Badly eaten cabbage plants
« on: September 25, 2019, 08:44 »
Morning all.
In August we had a week fishing on the Norfolk Broards  :), whilst there the local garden centre was
selling very healthy veg plants so we bought a tray of 6 spring cabbage plants (only 1.99) ;)
2 days after returning home we planted them & also set 6 similar seeds to give us a staggered
harvest & covered the whole area with very fine netting. We noticed earlier this week that the plants
have been badly eaten & some of the leaves are just about stripped   >:(. Can't see what's done it .
Is it worth leaving in or should we pull them up & set 6 more seeds ?

Have a look to see if there are any caterpillars that may have snuck under the netting. If there are then squish them off and they'll recover.
It's probably slug damage, though, if they've been tightly covered with netting - try using some slug pellets or traps. As long as the growing point is still there they will grow back ok.
