Using dissolved 6X
« on: July 17, 2019, 14:00 »
On the side of my 6X container it says that it can be added to a watering can and used as a liquid food. It mentions that it is good for tomatoes. Has anyone experience of using 6X this way? How does it compare with commercial tomato food? Can it be used for peppers?

The Nutrient analysis of 6X is given as:
Nitrogen (N) 5.8%, Phosphorous (P) 3.5%, Potassium (K) 3%

It's supposedly a more concentrated form of dried chicken manure, which averages N5:P2:K1

So quite high in nitrogen and therefore better for leafy veg than fruiting veg like tomatoes.

I imagine it disperses rather than dissolves in water, although it no doubt would take effect more quickly if applied that way rather than being sprinkled on to dry soil.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

It's a fabulous way to feed veg, Grubbypaws!

We've used it like that for years, and while JayG is spot on about the analysis, we also used to dilute it with nettle tea and also comfrey tea, and stuff just bounded ahead - especially leeks!

I still have a half bag at home now, but the pong would be too strong as a liquid feed (and no leeks), so over the next season, I'll get some going for a head start next year!

In fact, a quick dose for the beans is now in order, so thanks for the reminder!

I think 6x is a pint of real ale from a local Wiltshire Brewer. I don't dilute mine!
