rhubarb blight?
« on: July 03, 2019, 08:17 »
Is this some kind of blight? If so do I need to destroy the leaves? All my rhubarb was transplanted from other people's patches this year. This young plant came from a friends garden; I have 7 or 8 more plants that came from crowns split from my mum's garden and they all look great; I was even thinking of pulling a few stalks as they are looking so good even though I've heard that's not advisable from newly split crowns. thanks in advance for any comments.

It looks like rust to me, I'd remove the worst of the leaves, but leave some to keep feeding the roots.

In late autumn take off all top-growth and make sure the crown has no debris laying over it - so there's nowhere for the rust to overwinter.
