140 sounds very low to me. Reckon you'd get 300 from a Khaki Campbell

Brahmas are a beautiful statuesqe bird, and yes ,mainly bred for the show pen! That doesn't detract from their lovely nature though. I have a large cochin which are very similar. Are you going for bantams or large fowl ?- the large fowl are really huge! and will take up to 18mth to get to full size:lol: They also take a bit extra care with their feathered feet you will need to be diligent about checking for mites and in the winter ensuring you can keep them reasonably dry. Egg laying wont be fantastic, think about how many eggs you will need a week, 2 brahma hens should give you 4 eggs per week, then you could add  good laying breed in with them to supplement you to about 8-10 say a welsummer or sussex for example. Finally they are a slow, bird not flightly at all, and their feathered feet should be kind to your garden! Mine justs ambles to the feeder and back to somewhere comfy for a snooze!!!

You could always pop a hybrid layer like a black rock, speckledy or a bovan goldline in the coop to provide eggs.
Ours have been producing an egg a day faithfully all through the winter so far. I have been giving them away as we can't get through them ourselves!
Nothing seems to put them off laying - fireworks, icy winds, gloomy days - nothing. They are mobile egg machines! Obsessed even!
I am sure that the "posh" birds won't mind a more humble friend in the coop

Don't forget that if you hatch your own eggs there's a good chance you'll end up with some males aswell as females
