Hi there everyone, i'v not posted for a while due to me and my partner separating. the allotment kinda took a back seat.

Back to myself now though, so back on the allotment again, my god it has soon gone back to nature.  :(

Well i'v baught myself a fig tree from wilkinsons, was just wondering how best to plant it up.  :?:

Oh yeh hope everone else is ok.  :D

If you want it to fruit it'd be better in a large pot rather than open ground.
If it wasn't for chemicals we'd be organic.

Yes Sorry to hear that Stompy glad your back on your feet again now, figs like lots of drainage, poor soil. 1 book I have advocates digging in rubble where they are to be planted.

And here's the opposite....a fellow I know here plants his in good soil with lots of compost and he's loaded with figs from all his trees. The trick with outdoor planting in cold climates is to partly dig up and root prune the trees, then push them over into deep trenches which are then filled, covered over with insulation, then plastic to keep out water.
