45 Day Cabbage
« on: April 03, 2017, 12:27 »
I'm looking for a quick growing cabbage. I prefer a smallish head so it can be used in one go but my preference is more for a quick producer.

I've seen reference to a 45 day cabbage in USA. Is there something similar available from UK sources? The trend here in France is for 90 cabbages as well but seeds are so ridiculously priced here that purchases from the UK, even with postage included, are cheaper.

Grow lights for early germination;
Blow away on NE facing terrace for hardening off;
Small potager 90sq.m at 300metres
No-dig method, intensive planting and incorporating permaculture principles.

I take it that's 45 days from transplanting - not from sowing  :wacko:

Anyway something like Hispi would be ready in May from a Feb sowing on windowledge.

Hispi cabbage/DT Brown

Other seed sites also stock these, so shop around for the best price.

I do not know about such ting in the UK, early summer cabbage it's called on the continent, many of them available there. I have grown successfully here without  a fail, korai (early) Szentesi. However, they do sell some such varieties, not exactly classified separately so. The Kalybos summer red cabbage, for example, can be ready very early from an early sowing.
