hammered again
« on: March 31, 2017, 17:20 »
Just posted in what I did in the garden today planted out my onions and about two hours later they were hammered by marble sized hail :( I did plant them deep though so I hope that even though the tops are well smashed about the growth point will still deliver ? I had the same last year but it happened in May when they were a good bit further on and I still got some nice onions so hoping they do the same as last year and bounce back.

Down there hail is serious stuff, had a couple of truck windscreens bust by it on my way to Spain, (happy days, lol)

Hi Jambop, sorry to hear you were struck with severe weather. I was thinking of you again this afternoon when i saw more headed our way. We've been lucky so far, no damage but plenty of lovely soaking rain. Everything thriving in the potager.

On y vas!
Grow lights for early germination;
Blow away on NE facing terrace for hardening off;
Small potager 90sq.m at 300metres
No-dig method, intensive planting and incorporating permaculture principles.

Aussie I am hopeful they will recover as they were fairly deep planted so the tops may look bad but they were only onto their third leaf. At the moment my garden looks similar to a paddy field but they say the rain will stop on Monday for about ten days so here is hoping. The same thing happened last year only that was in June we are just a bit too close to the mountains :)   It really sucks the life out of you though when you see what had been a picture destroyed in literally minutes never mind its early days so I can always buy if need be.
