I bought my seed potatoes a bout 10 days ago when the had no chits on then and just put them in a cupboard off the kitchen, They have now formed chits how do I make the chits turn green and also prevent them from becoming too long? I will not be putting them in for a few weeks yet as the ground is not right and the weather is not settled just now.

You need to get them out of the cupboard and into the light - if the chits are already more than about 1cm long it's probably best to rub them off and start again because otherwise they will be very weak and probably break off when you plant them.

Best place is cool and indirect light (windowsill in my north facing bedroom works for me.)

Thanks they are still quite small so I will put them into at tray and then in a store room that has a roof light so there is always some daylight during the day.
