worried
« on: June 04, 2017, 11:50 »
There is bird poop on one of my potato plants and the plant looks as if it is dying  :(

Is it possible for a bird to have ingested a herbicide and for it to remain active?

If this is the case it is extremely worrying. Has anyone else had this happen?

IMO It is unlikely the bird poop is causing the plant to die.

The second part of your question would never even have entered my head, I don't believe it is possible.

I know it sounds far fetched I dont know what else could have caused it. The plant was fine in the morning and looking awful by the afternoon; I have attached a picture. The only thing that I could see was a largish leaf covered in bird poo that had bluish bits in it.

The day before yesterday I watched with horror as my neighbour put one of those poison carrier things on his back and sprayed all his patio and paths.

All the other plants are entirely healthy including the ones in the same container.

Any one have any ideas pleas

Could some of the spray he was using have reached the potato plant?

The most likely explanation is that it is a complete coincidence.

Just because event B follows event A does not mean that event A caused event B.

I don’t think so mumofstig; we are higher than him and if it was him spraying i don’t think the damage would have just been to one plant.

Your logic is faultless al78 ; but what I want to know is what caused event B. I have a tomato potato plant on its last legs and no clue as to why!

So, not only is your potato plant dying, it's also changed into a tomato plant 😄

Sorry, posted that before I finished writing! Just joking. Funnily enough, One day last week a bird pooed on one of my tomato plants, it looked as f a bucket of whitewash had been tipped on it, but it's growing away fine. I rather think it may be something to do with your neighbour, tomatoes and potatoes are very sensitive to weedkiller.

Definitely a potato plant! Once again I am the victim of my computers spellchecker  ::)

It definitely looks as if it has been sprayed with weedkiller.

Any sign of Ants? Could be there is a nest in there and its depriving the plant of moisture.

Sorry, am i missing something? The pic youve posted looks far from awful to me, given its in essentially a plastic bag, does it not merely need a drink?

All bags thoroughly fed and watered. Two plants in the same pot fine; this has never been a thirsty plant!!!!

Oh and it has subsequently died completely  :(

I contacted the NPIC and they confirm that pesticides can stay active in bird droppings.
