I occasionally get an egg with a hazy halo in the white around the yolk.  Has anyone else had this or know what causes it.  It seems to be the same hen that lays it.  It's fresh & not off and doesn't taste any different.

This is the best guide to egg quality that I know.  On page 16 it says:

In a very fresh, good quality egg, the albumen is jelly-like and may
have a cloudy appearance. As the egg ages and carbon dioxide
is lost through the shell, the contents become more alkaline and
this causes the albumen to become transparent and increasingly
watery.
