My new plot is quite small, it is grass in parts around the edge, and turned over in the centre, the ground is very hard at the moment due to lack of rain. I plan to dig up the grass and put into a pile to make into loam. Would it be easier to dig over if I watered the area that has been turned over ? your advice would be most welcome

It will make the ground softer, but it is difficult to get enough on to dig to any depth.  If you can get a fork in the ground, you can start breaking it up so water can penetrate deeper. 

There is rain on the way over the next day or so, so its worth hanging on until that has blown through
