Hello. I have a neighbouring farmer with a chicken farm and so I have access to a lot of chicken manure. It's been stacked outside for perhaps a year - there are weeds germinating on it so I presume it's well-rotted, and inside the pile it's black and damp and not very smelly! How best to use it? Does anyone know if it's still very strong or can I spread it around as a general fertiliser or use it as a mulch? Thanks for any advice.

It will still be pretty strong, but makes a great fertiliser

Use sparingly as it will still be strong and can 'scorch' the roots.

It is high in Nitrogen but not so much Phospahte and Potash, so better as an early season fertiliser for leaf growth rather than later for fruit production.

I wouldn't be tempted to use it as a mulch as that will probably be too much.
