Fruit Cage Netting - Special Offer
« on: March 20, 2016, 23:25 »
If you are thinking of building a fruit cage, a company called Huck is selling (on special offer) 28mm mesh x 1mm strand, nylon knotted net for 25p/m2 ex VAT, delivery £4.20. You specify the dimensions you require.

This is proper knotted mesh from nylon twine, not the plastic or welded stuff they sell at garden centres. It is rot-proof and UV stable.

https://www.huck-net.co.uk/bird-control/15564/?q=&f%5B163%5D=Starlings&f%5B165%5D=1+mm&f%5B174%5D=28+mm

I have no affiliation to them but have purchased this net before and it is very strong.

I usually use Pond Netting - bought from the internet post-free! from Tropical Reef. OK - its advertised as for Koi ponds etc but I'm not fussy..........Larger sizes also available.
I've found that a 4m x 3m (or whatever in real terms) is sufficient for covering the frames (stand 2' tall) on my 4' x 6' bed. Cost half the price of the local garden centre and no fancy packaging to dispose of.
