I have a sort of overflow veg patch next to my polytunnel. I'd mainly cleared it in December and as the ground is now nicely drying out, went to make a start on digging it over yesterday. What a shock! I harvested seven huge (8" diameter) celeriacs. They were totally insignificant little weedy things before Christmas, total failures as I thought. Must have been all the winter rain and the crazy mild weather in December and January.

Well done.  I dug some up today too.  Tiny things, added to the compost bin.  Certainly no shortage of water round here too.

I was totally shocked. I've been growing them with little success for about five years. In fact the only ones that grew to any size in the past were in the polytunnel. I can only assume that the rich soil combined with the daft wet and mild weather we had in December and January really suited them

Thats quite a result    I haven't pulled up my pathethic swede yet this year.  They were looking bedraggled and sad, so I just stuck a net tunnel over them and left them to it.  You have given me hope now
