can you just go and visit the allotments and have a chat with the folks there or do folks get upset when people go wondering around.

i grew veg years ago (at my old hose)with my dad i had a really long garden and dad had a plot at the bottom of my garden as it was not being used.

now both my boys are at school and ive reduced my working hours i would  love a plot, cant grow much at home as ive 11 chooks wandering around and my garden is on a big slope,

Hearing on this site how people moan that the gates are always left open, I think if you go in with the right frame of mind and have a chat to the plotholders you will integrate yourself well.

If they're not forthcoming, wear a suit and carry a clipboard. 8)

I'd suggest finding out who runs your lottie association as the locals often have their own agenda / idea of what's going on.... (Recently i had a lottie holder (non committee) showing a guy round and almost promissing him a plot when there's a waiting list ahead of him!!) and have a word with them.   If our association is anything to go by they won't miond if yto  elect to joi9n the association as a committee m embr too!!!  (Sorry -n t00 much wine tonight" !")
