I bought 2 packs of Holsteiner rhubarb at B & Ms but on opening the packets it looks like the root has been hacked of the root ball with no thought to leaving the crown, I have no way to see which way up to plant them so would it be ok to place them on damp compost in an unheated propagator to see if shoots appear, cheers Dave

just plant it horizontally if you can - rhubarb can be like weeds sometimes so I'm sure it will figure itself out which way to grow
