Hi all,

My 6wk hamburg appears to have a knocked knee She has curly toe issues on the same leg which I am splinting, but I am wondering if she has hurt herself flapping about in her run, or is a result from the curly toes and counter balancing herself?

Is her hock hot to the tuch? If so its most likely a damaged joint and she needs a bit of rest.

The hock is quite warm and swollen this morning. I have moved her to a smaller pen with a towel for flooring but she is still sitting in roost position on top of her brooder. Obviously her leg is bent under her, but it looks to be needing straighening. I don't want it to worsen so is there anything I can do to help with the healing process?

I have her in a sling now, leg bandaged in a straighter position.. Not too tight, and medicated her with the appropriate dose of aspirin to her body weight. She seems sooooo much happier to not have any weight on the leg, and is eating and drinking like a trooper (normal for her) and will be staying indoors for a few nights. If the swelling doesn't go down in a few days then I shall take her to the vets... A chicken one 😀
