I planted sets, as usual, but through weed supressing membrane. Best crop ever, also coincidence? I just need to dry them properly now!!!!

It looks like a good year for onions here too.. Got a few thick necks that are still standing proud, (these will go for slicing and freezing), while the rest have bent over so will be strung up once dried.. Must have been the hot spell followed by the rains.

It does seem a good year for onions doesn't it? Glad to hear your seed sown ones have done so well, alancas..... I can see you sowing some again next year  :D :D

i second that sunshine , been a real good year for onions.
funnily enough i normally grow from seed as more often then not im lucky to get more then 50% if i planted sets that dont bolt ,and this year i was slow off the mark and didnt get round to sowing so all my onions this year are from sets , even red barons,i could probably count my bolted onions on one hand out of 200+ sets

Last year was the first year our site had them and got by relatively unscathed. This year others seem to have survived but I got hit big time :( my garlic got them as well but luckily managed to grow well despite them.

Funny how it goes. Last year and the year before we had a big problem with both onion mildew and leaf miner, whereas this year both were absent.

I could argue that the Epsom salts I scrabbled into the soils surface strengthened the leaves against mildew, but not that this deterred leaf miner. Weird

Same here, best year by far, last year's crop was pitiful this year  nearly every set I planted thrived.
Cucumbers on the other hand... a really sorry return for my efforts. I think sometimes it goes in years for veg.

Suddenly a touch of white rot has appeared on my spring onions so I have harvested them all and planted the next batch in another bed
