Last year some critter chewed on my sweetcorn to the extent that I had to throw away almost half of the cobs.  Talking about this with some of the more experienced allotmenteers, they told they've never had any trouble with their sweetcorn and what I had suffered was probably just a one off.

Not so!  THE THING is back again! 

Could it be mice do you think?  If so I might invest in some traps.  This town ain't big enough for both of us.

Rats! Last year they devastated mine and other tenants sweetcorn. They nibbled a bit of the cob to check if it was ready. If it was then they chomped through the stalk toppling the whole plant over and then helped themselves. I lost about 40 cobs literally overnight. Found discarded and chewed through cobs all over my plot.

Oh yes!! Rats for sure --- we had the same problem last year, and this year have installed some sonar rodent repellers that use solar power, in the hope we can eat some of our own sweetcorn

Mice or rats, last year I noticed a few of mine getting nibbled, so went and put socks over all the remaining cobs secured with string at the bottom. This worked really well and I'll be repeating this year once the silks start to fade.

Sounds like a cage trap or several baited with corn is called for.

Try to get the allotment commitee to buy some.
