Franceline Potatoes

We visit friends in France quite often and they grow these potatoes which are pink, related to Charlotte and have a fantastic flavour.  We would very much like to grow them here, but cannot find a supplier.  They are easily available in France, but we understand that it is illegal to import seed potatoes from the continent.

According to this:

http://www.inbrief.co.uk/neighbour-disputes/importing-plants-and-seeds.htm

importing seed potatoes into the UK is prohibited.

You'll probably have to find something similar and make do, I'm afraid. Ratte is another potato popular in France and you can find seed potato suppliers that stock it. If I recall rightly, Tuckers had it last year.

I read that as importing from an EU country is fine if they are disease free for your own use, but not allowed from other countries not in the EU?

Snoop the bit about not importing seed potatoes, is about countries not in the EU, assuming I've read it right.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/bringing-fruit-vegetable-and-plant-products-into-the-uk

click on the fruit and veg booklet to view it.

It says that you can bring in any plant products except Ash, Sweet Chestnut and Plane, as long as they are grown in the EU and are free from pests and diseases and are for your own use or consumption.

Thank you very much for all this information.  I will read the document.  There is another pink salad potato called Roseval which has fantastic flavour which I think is available from D. T. Brown.
