romanesco now calabrese
« on: July 09, 2015, 11:17 »
Hi

Very confused has anyone on here bought Johnsons Romanesco seeds that have turned out to be calabrese, have done successive planting and on both occasions ended up with calabrese have double checked little white seed packets and it definitely says Romanesco.

A couple of years ago I was given Mr Fothergill borlotti beans which grew to be broad beans is it my soil ?

Very very confused

:D I garden therefore I am

Romanesco sometimes produces smaller heads than normal if too cold or dry.  It can look like calabrese but it is not.  Any pictures at all?

Um not sure, but Romanesco tends to have a lime-green head in the form of a spiral and crops later in the year.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Are you sure it was Romanesco you sowed? March seems early for Romanesco, which is an Autumn harvest crop?

I've only just transplanted mine........

Have you thrown the packet away? If the wrong thing was in it you can send pics of packet and crop to the supplier for a refund.

I am not good at reading packet instructions at my peril it seems, have re- planted some more of these, and bought another packet ..not Johnsons and have sown so will see what these turn into, and yes think I will send them back.
