We have a black bamboo in our garden - the non-invasive one Phylostachus negra  or some such and it's been in place now for 10 years and makes a good clump. However, from time to time it makes a run for the rose bed and our treatment of the escapees is as Goosegirl says - we chop of the top of the shoot and whack some neat glysophate onto the cut edges. This kills the bad guy and we haven't noticed any damage to the main plant.
