Transplanted two big red currant, four big blackcurrant and one white currant bushes down to the allotment.  It was easier than I had been dreading.  Not as much size to the root ball as I thought.  I hope they take.

The question (that I forgot to ask) is as they are mature bushes, should I do any pruning now they are in their new home or leave them this year to get re-established?

I'd certainly give them a bit of a prune to make up for the broken roots.

Sounds good, reduce the water transpiring out while the water into the roots is reduced.

It is surprising how their root balls are b=never the size you think. I moved some mature gooseberry bushes last year and it was relatively easy. They didn't fruit that well afterwards, so be prepared if that happens with your currants.

So, I've got a mind to plant a new set of strawberry plants but is there another fruit with a similar habit (not too tall which is why I moved the currants, they were shadowing my cherry espalier)and pH requirements that I could plant?
