bonsai trees

Mods please move if this isn't in the right place.

I was given a bonsai tree for Christmas and it has certainly helped to overcome the "I can't sow any seeds yet" blues. I was just wondering if anyone else here has one?

I have about ten outside in the garden.

What sort is yours, OG?

I have a few, all grown from seed. They are getting on for 30 years old now.

They can be very addictive I've found  :nowink:

My oldest is around 35 years old -- a copper beech about 18 ins tall, in a washing up bowl. I shall be potting it into something else come the end of the month as the plastic is now breaking up

Very true, Sunshineband, they can be very addictive. Once I started with them, I began accumulating them at an alarming rate. They started to take up all my time. Now, I have 2 hawthorns, 2 crab apples, 2 larches, (Bit like Noah's Ark this, isn't it) and a trident maple.

They can be quite time consuming at some points in the year, but gorgeous. I have a horse chestnut where the leaves have gone really small now... not sure how old it is. Maybe about ten years. It is not  a brilliant shape though. Larches grow well, and I have a good wild pear too. It took me a while to be able to be firm enough to cut off growth or wire branches, as well as remember to take the wire off or at least loosen it before the bark was permanently marked
