I have an adorable chicken who has decided that she should live in and sleep in my kitchen - does anyone else have this?  :tongue2:

Hi Sharon,
Welcome to the site.  Your chook sounds really cute!  I expect our three black d'Anvers would like to be inside, too, but the dog would have something to say about it.  I'd like the wyandottes in, too, but it's not to be.  I can't cope with the normal cleaning let alone hen stuff on top of it all!  :D

awww bless her

I used to keep an exceptionally old chook in on cold winter days and nights , she was 10 years old !!!! and as she was the last chook left so think she enjoyed being in with us

to be honest as she was so old she didn't cause any probs but I think it's healthier to keep them outside for them and you  ;)

Two of mine visit eery evening.  They sqwawk to be let in and hop to a high shelf in my office.  They rest and preen for a couple of hours then ask to go to bed so its back to the coop.

It such a pleasure :D

It's not unusual to find our old cockerel sitting on my daughter's knees watching the TV with her.

Thanks for the replies - she is a Burford Brown, I have had for nearly three years and up until this Winter she has been almost a daily layer.  From virtually day one she insisted on coming in to the kitchen to lay her eggs - her other coop mates have sadly died one by one (I am sure it is because she spent so long indoors) yet she is still going.  She muscles both the dog and the very old cat (24 years old) out of their food and beds and is quite a character.  I love her dearly and she is a really sweet girl.

My problem is, at the end of February I have to go into hospital for some major repair to a hernia and despite the fact that I dont want to re-home her, I have no choice as I will not be able to be her own personal poop scooper as I myself will be immobile and I am hoping that one of you like minded owners who love their chicken as much as I love mine and who understand that she truly thinks she belongs nowhere except for where she wants to be, will be kind enough to offer my beautiful girl a warm and loving home.

I live near Bristol and I can post a photo as soon as I can work out how!!!

Have you tried any neighbours?  It's surprising how some will help animals rather than humans!  I hope you find someone to help you, hopefully so that your hen can stay with you, as I'm sure you'll miss her terribly.

Good luck with your treatment and a speedy recovery.
