ground coffee, compost?

Just got a filter coffee machine for free & was wondering if I can compost the used ground coffee.

HI Bee121, as it is a natural product I would put it on the compost, but I have read somewhere that the grounds are also good as a slug deterrent so get brewing. Cheers :lol:

and if you use unbleached filters you can compost those too. happy days coffee and compost, win win

Coffee grounds are quite acidic, so you need to bear that in mind depending on your soil type.   Possibly good for mulching blueberries and cranberries?   I did try them as a slug deterrent once with middling results, not much of an improvement.

Mine go on the compost heap, filter paper and all.  But my son puts his around his pepper plants to deter those annoying little flies.

My oh came back wih a big bag of used grounds from a coffee shop. I threw handfuls of the stuff all over my plot as it was lacking in organic matter it was about this time of year too. I've read it's good the caffein can help some plants. It certainly didn't do my crops any harm or cause any rodent problems.

I get loads from work im a chef and i scatter them straight on my allotment and i dont get any slug damage :D and now my neighbours have asked for some iv also monitored acidity and havent noticed any significant rise

hi when i worked at a market garden we used coffee grounds to spray currant bushes  for saw fly ,it seemed to work as the bushes were clear after a couple of days ,we used 1/2 pound in 3 gallon bucket of water then 1/2gallon in 4 gallon sprayer topped up to 4 gallons this covered adozen bushes   jeza
