Update from bristol
« on: December 26, 2014, 10:20 »
merry Christmas everyone, i thought maybe a little update was overdue so here goes.
we have learned that weeds grow at a phenominal rate during mild autumn early winter,so much so,we had to completely dig the whole plot again, plus a long standing plot worker advised us not to work beyond a half spade depth as the clay was just too much.
we have changed plans significantly now and are going to use the land for mainly salad crops and fruit trees with a decent area for marrows and pumpkins.also some raised beds but see how cost works out on that.
we also have a decent polytunnel for propagating etc.
for the veg we have got a second plot now in a different location which amazingly was given up almost ready to use without a massive weedbed to start off.
plans to get this turned over before january have nearly gone by the way but hopefully we can get some time in this weekend.
i will add some pics from that one soon and sign off for now wishing everyone a very happy new

Merry Christmas to you as well red squirrel, lucky you to have 2 plots, hope they're not too far away from each other :)

thankyou Snowdrops, the second plot is much easier to get to with more relaxed rules and easier parking.
should we do better than planned, the hard work needed to maintain the first one might get passed up but only if we dont run out of space which i cannot really see happening with the four of us using them.

Hi redsquirrel  ;) I'm in the Bristol region too but a few miles out the other side.  I have my eye onn another (half)plot but this one is next to mine and was relet before I realised I could do with more room because of my increasing soft fruit. Seems horrid to wait until new tenant fails but am trying not to will them to  as I have been told it's mine if they don't pull their socks up.
