Can you grow them under mesh next year? Mine have been grown in a tent of the stuff as a preventative measure and are bug-free.

Mine have leaf miner pupae buried in so many of the sheaths of leaves, including the blanched ones, that there isn't a great deal left after removing them, and given that the tunnels they created are already discolouring as the rot starts to set in I don't think this is something they could possibly grow out of.

Am I correct in assuming that those who have seen their leeks recover are referring to leek moth rather than the allium leaf miner?
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Yes. Leek moth.

Hi,

I found some bugs in mine as well (SE) and from looking online I'm pretty sure they were miner rather than leek moth. Had a few the first couple of times i bought some home that were fine but after that they were just unusable. Dug them all up and checked them all and all but one (a thinner one) were infected so they're on the bonfire heap for our allotment bonfire on Saturday.

I guess it's the mild autumn that allowed them to be a problem? I was chatting with a fellow allotmenteer and she said she had similar. I'm planning on covering them with enviromesh next year. Such a shame as they'd grown so well.
