Bird Attacked Cauliflower
« on: July 10, 2014, 22:01 »
I have about a month ago planted 3 Cauliflower plants.

The birds attacked them quite quickly and most of the leaves have gone however the plants still seem fairly healthy.

My question is if I cover them with net type cloches on offer from Dobbies could they still be ok and come back to life.

As long as the top bud is green they should regrow if you cover them.

mine got decimated by caterpillars last year but they did recover, just set them back a bit.

i have trouble with them going to seed during the summer (even though they were a summer variety). may be worth netting whats there and start sowing some more in case yours do the same so you can plant more to replace them.

keep an eye on them and try to catch them before going to seed, i can't seem to get the curds any bigger than tennis ball size during the summer. the ones i planted late summer last year did get to a decent size.

I read your post too quickly and thought it said "bird attacked by cauliflower". Now that would be some vegetable. :tongue2:
