Pickling cucumbers - again...
« on: July 22, 2014, 17:17 »
Trillium touched on this some years ago, but an update could be a good idea!

We've just met an old chum who mentioned that her mother - say in the 1940s/1950s, used to pickle cucumbers using alum.

She said that the flavour of the cucumber remained sweet, and presumably lasted some time, and there was no vinegary aftertaste of course!

Has anyone here tried preserving this way?

No, but there's a recipe here I had saved in my favourites  ;) but you do need to heat treat the jars.............

If, one day I ever get enough cucumbers, I'm going to try it  ::)
