Observations on ferric phospate

 - if there are slugs and snails about it vanishes in the night.
 - when they are some left in the morning your plants should be safe 
 - it appears to be more effective than the metaldehyde at dealing with snails.
 - no bodies or slime
 - not poisonous to hedgehogs and birds
 - not poisonous to children and pets

We see many criticisms that it is not as effective as metaldehyde. Is this just heresay or are they not being used in the most effective way?

Assuming you mean ferric phosphate, it's not a direct poison like metaldehyde which is why it doesn't present such a risk to other wildlife, although the fact that the slugs and snails crawl away to die removes the visible evidence that it works.

I have wondered if there's a possibility that because it's more slow acting there is a chance the slugs could have just one last meal of your plants before the effects kick in, but that's pure speculation on my part!

My findings are so long as you keep the pellets topped up - not massively but just a sprinkle regularly to feed any newcomers - then they work very well.
