Potato skins splitting
« on: July 10, 2014, 20:05 »
Evenin' all. I've just started harvesting my spuds and both Maris Peer and International Kidney varieties are suffering from splitting skins when I boil them. Anyone know why? Also, do I need to water the plants in the dry weather we're having or leave alone? Might be a daft question, but am not sure what to do now they are ready to harvest.

Leave them for a day or two before cooking. Steam them, don't boil them.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Had the same problem our first earlies Nicola splitting when I boiled them, guess they're just too fresh !!, as DD advises steaming is the correct way to cook, enjoy.

Thanks both. Haven't experienced this before with new potatoes so just wondered why it is happening.
