I went back to the allotment this afternoon with my daughter to put some net over the strawberries that are now beginning to ripen. Next to that area is some weed suppressant I'd thrown down, and since I hadn't put it down properly it's not really doing a good job.

My daughter stood on it and something came out from underneath, at first I thought it must be a rabbit and then saw it was a bird. We were both shocked. After we'd finished netting I joked that it could have a nest under there. Sure enough there are 10 eggs. From the fleeting glance we got of the bird and seeing the eggs we think it was a partridge. I had my glove on when lifting the weed suppressant and was holding up about 2 foot away from where the eggs were when I looked. We replace it immediately and went home, in the hopes she won't abandon them. Do you think she will return? Anyone else had this?

she may not return to her nest.  You will have to wait and see.  do you know anyone with an incubator.  if left too long the  chicks will die.
