Help.    Something has gone wrong with my brassicas.    They start off ok and then start to wilt and change colour to yellows and reds  and then die.     A loss of roots and the stem between the top of the plant and the roots is very hard, dry? .     It doesn't look like clubroot and I cannot see any obvious signs of insects.    Any suggestions?

What is your soil pH?  If acidic, they tend to get sickly as they cannot take up calcium in the soil.  Did you dig in any lime?  Another possibility is waterlogging - if the soil is very wet, the roots "drown" and rot off.  Or some sort of root disturbance, maybe when weeding?

Have you had a close look at the remains of the roots and in the soil where it was planted? I'm wondering if it is cabbage root fly larvae.
