Mahoosive potato
« on: May 26, 2014, 18:32 »
Whilst weeding the Blueberry beds that I built last winter I discovered a few potato stalks, thinking that all that was required would be to pull them up and that'll be it.

Imagine my surprise when pulling up one of the stalks this came with it!!!

It's a good job John my other half decided only this morning that he had a craving for potatoes and said he could eat a whole bowl of roast pots! :)

Maybe growing in ericaceous compost is the way forward?!

I think your dog looks rather worried by it, perhaps he thinks it is destined for his bed  :D. Did you grow them there last year?

Wow. What a wopper. How many roasties did that produce for dinner? Didn't know you could eat last year's tatties. Had to dig up quite a lot from last year which sprouted up this spring but thought had better chuck 'em. A few looked a bit dodgy, but your humonger looks in fine fettle.   :)

The puppy isn't worried, she's working out how to steal it without me noticing. She has an acquired taste for things she shouldn't eat. Chatting potatoes are usually her favourite!

I was wondering that. And how did you miss it the first time round, Chaz?

Unfortunately I have no idea on variety, I don't think I missed this spud first time round as I built the raised blueberry beds after harvesting all the potatoes and filling each bed with ericaceous compost. This one and a few more slightly smaller ones were growing at the top of a 45cm raised bed  ???

That is a big one!  :D I've got previous year's spuds coming up in all 4 raised beds this year - er? I dug some tiddler plants out, but other gardening chores took over and they now look quite big, so I'm going to have a furtle and see if there's anything worth harvesting.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
