Spud no more earthing up room
« on: May 02, 2014, 19:36 »
So the spuds have been earthed up as much as possible and today they are two more inches above the ground, I dont have enough fleece for them all.  what else can I use, bearing in mind running up and down every evening and first thing in the morning is not possible.

Not much else you can do... the frost will only set them back a week or so... I'd not worry tooo much.

I didn't think you were at risk in the balmy south west?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Covered mine with a big sheet of dpm polythene. Hopefully will do the trick. Got no more earth to earth them up with.

I would be in the same position, but luckily I haven't used all of this years manure delivery yet, so any "tops" are getting covered with that.... plus we buried them deep when we planted at end March, so they are only just beginning to show in reality! :tongue2:

Earthed my spuds up yesterday and fleeced the baby salad, rocket and radish seedlings, although they probably would have been OK as only a touch of ground frost, although the air temperature was down to +0.5C

Everything else should be OK - onions and leeks still in GH, everything else still on kitchen windowsill....

...and on top of the washing machine...

...and on top of one of the work surfaces.......
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

It was frosty enough to write my name on the outside of the greenhouse and there was 2 or 3 mm layer of ice on a tub of water, but everything has survived including the potatoes which were not covered.
