Moss eradication?I
« on: April 23, 2014, 23:28 »
I have small piece of lawn, about 30 square metres, which always grows moss, solid moss with some grass,. It is not surprising, although it is an open site it on clay and slopes slightly north.

About 10 days ago it was dosed with a moss killer and has now turned black. I have borrowed an electric scarifier and the intention is to scarify in the next few days.

What should I be doing then?

I'd be considering whether I needed to re-sow any bare patches, whether with something like Patch Magic or standard lawn seed.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Is your lawn shady or in full sun, as shade will encourage moss. After you have raked the moss out, go over the whole area with a garden fork - push it into the lawn and wiggle it to make small holes - then get some sharp sand and brush it in all over. If it's only a small area, you could get some cheap compost, add some Growmore or whatever to it and mix it in, then brush that in on top. Get a packet of lawn seed (there are ones for shady areas if you need it) and scatter it all over, then gently water in and keep well-watered until the seedlings have established. My other suggestion is to look at the Green Thumb website. They have three different annual lawn treatments available and are very reasonable in price. I have just arranged with them to do my three large lawns and was pleased with their professional assessment of it, and they will be coming on Monday to do the first treatment. I have recommended them on here before but - Mods - I have no association with the firm!  :nowink:
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Do a soil test. You probably need to add lime.
