Planting over bulbs
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:49 »
I've got a steady supply of wild garlic bulbs for the plot and am planning to plant saffron crocus later in summer.

Given both are only above the ground for limited periods of time, can I plant things on top and if so, what would you recommend?

The wild garlic will go in the deep shade of the shed and the saffron in a narrow raised bed along the north side of the plot.

Thanks!  :)

I wouldn't plant directly on top as it would affect their growth. You could leave spaces and plant something in between. For deep shade, perhaps Hellibores - can't think of a suitable veg at the moment. With the saffron crocuses, parsely would work as it can take some shade.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
