i've got 3 new timberly early arrived today, that i'll be planting before the weekend.

anyone know how much space these need?

1 Meter.  I would dig a nice big hole about 50cm deep and fill it with compost/well rotted manure and some topsoil and plant just below the surface.

That is how far apart mine are and that seems to be just fine 

Bear in mind they will stick out all around each crown by about 50-75cm so don't plant anything too close in front of them. I only say this as my gooseberry bushes were too close and got swamped under rhubarb leaves in their first season

deffinately no closer than a metre.if you have the space give them around 4ft they do get big once established

Oh dear, I put 4 in a 4ft quarter bed last autumn....
