Butternut squash and pumpkn too early
« on: February 22, 2014, 15:10 »
Hi, please can anybody advise if it is too early to for squash and pumpkin, I bought some butternut squash seeds, and found some giant variety pumpkin seed, I got the pumpkin seeds because I was going to add to competition but then never, when do you sow, and do you sow indoors? :)

Down here, I don't sow before mid April, in the greenhouse/on windowledge they usually germinate quickly and then very rapidly grow into monsters  ::)

It may be worth waiting a week later, depending on your climate - as you'll not be able to plant out until after your last frosts

Ignore the packet as it will probably state that you can sow from march onwards. Late April at the earliest for you up there I reckon.
