Strawberries seem to do fine in pots and makes it easy to bring inside for an early crop. I've had good crops with plants in 10" pots and also tried 3 around a 12" pot last year which worked fine. These will be brought into the greenhouse in Feb for an early crop. I've also had good results by sticking 8 in a growbag, but they're a bit more difficult to move around. I always feed regularly with tomatoe food when the berries are developing as they soon run out of nutrients in the pots.

If you do grow in pots, and intend them to be in the pots for more than a season, make sure you fill the pots with some John Innes compost - probably No2, rather than just multipurpose compost.  The JI has more nutrients and doesn't dry out as much.  I'd avoid growbags for the same reason, personally.
