Can i add fertilizer to my raised bed now?
« on: January 11, 2014, 20:02 »
Hi
I have most of  my raised beds covered in horse manure at the moment.  But my main question is Can i add fertilizer to my raised beds now in preparation for spring or will it just get washed away and wasted? Or should i wait until frost and snow has gone?
When and if the snow arrives that is hehe.

I wouldn't bother - I think it will get washed away or will simply dissolve without affecting plants.

Save your money and fertiliser till spring time  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I would not waste my money for it to be washed away as said.

I am glad I didn't put my manure on yet.

You'll grow some excellent weeds if the weather isn't too cold. As you probably don't want to grow weeds, not a good idea.

No.... Not if you want all the fertilizer to be leached out by Spring...
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

I add my manure in fall, but only because it's fairly fresh stuff and winter will mature it for spring.

Fertilizer is an instant kick for plants, so unless you have plants actively growing, there's no need to add it until actual growing season.
