I grew both Pentland Javelin and Charlotte's last year and had a successful crop from both  :) although everyone was commenting on how nice the Charlotte's were I actually preferred the Pentland Javelin's, I think the two have a completely different texture and it is down to personal preference.

I have ordered more Pentland Javelins for this year along with some new different varieties that I did not grow last year.

Having tried most of the earlies, I have found Dunluce to be by far the best tasting, best cropping and also the earliest!

But a lot depends on your soil, I grow Desiree in my allotment good crop and taste and with no slug damage, but when I grew some in my rear garden they were riddled with keel slugs had a poor taste and poor crop, which I put down to my garden soil!

Ps same seed potatoes in both places!

Cheers!
STOP, and smell the roses!
