just wondering if it id still ok to put in over wintering onions now?

Unless  your ground is frozen, give it  a go.
 
Round here it would certainly be OK this year


I always take the view that they won't come to much in the packet

Hi Alex. I certainly hope so as I only got round to putting mine in last weekend. We have been having a few frosts though but I reckon they will be fine as a few of them were sprouting in the packet. Also I planted exactly the same time last year and had a very respectable crop.
