A frined of mine had a Gaura (var. linderheir or something) and wants to know does she cut it down in autumn or spring and by how much.

it should die back as it gets colder, just cut the dead top growth off anytime during winter.
It's classed as a short lived perennial - as a really cold winter can kill it off

Thanks mumofstig - will telll her, and perhaps say to put a mulch on top after to protect from the frosts.
