Effie Cat's adventure
« on: October 21, 2013, 12:46 »
As some of you know our fairly old (13) white cat Effie was missing for three days and then turned up looking very sorry for herself. We think she was trapped inside a shed or something and she was very dirty.

She is now almost white again, but has developed a lump the size of  a medium chicken egg on her back, which I assumed was an abscess. There was a small scab, which has now healed over.

Of to the vet this morning and now £65 the poorer, it seems it 'doesn't feel like an abscess as it is so solid'. Anitbiotics-  Oh joy! We are off on holiday early Friday morning - and bring her back if it gets any bigger or ruptures.

Our friend feeding her will be just delighted I am sure

Effie is now skulking round re-examining everything in the house to make sure no-one has changed it while she was out  Daft thing

And no doubt Effie will look at you as if everything that has happened is your fault.

it does make you wonder what they get up to when you can't see them doesn't it

I hope your friend is good with getting the antibiotics down her...or are they the palateable kind that go in the food? they're much easier to deal with

Allegedly palatable you mean

She can search them out in her food and eat around them, so it is grinding them up tim ::)

We have a dog at the refuge that needs eye drops- putting a tablet down a cats throat is easy peasy compared to 3 drops in each eye, we managed one drop in one eye the other day- the rest went everywhere except her eyes!

Oh poor cat. I wonder what the lump is. I hope whatever it is clears up soon and she'll back to her old self. Not wandering though hopefully  :)

Aw! I do hope the antibiotics sort her out. They do give us a lot of worry at times, but they are so lovely.  :)

Poor Effie, hope she gets well quickly :)

Our Pandy went missing for almost a week, we went out several times a day calling on her, me in my wheelchair banging an open tin of food, (the nieghbours are used to my exccentricities) we searched the nature reserve, fields, the old plant, gardens, road sides, we couldn't find her.  Then one day I heard Loki crying to get in and there was Pandy, Loki had found her and brought her home  I don't think she enjoyed her adventure because she wouldn't go out after that unless we were with her.
May this day be blessed with gifts, understanding and friends.  Merlin 2001-2012 Pandora 2001-2013 xxx

yes, I know what you mean Evie... Effie will only go out if I go with her at the moment, and even then only for a few minutes.

Not sure if it is my hopeful imagination but the lump might be smaller today. It is definitely not larger though.

I have found that rolling a tablet in a very small ball of corned beef, and feeding her a couple of empty balls first fools her into eating the tablet through sheer greed

Helps no end  ;)

Thanks for the tip.
I hope your cat is soon ok. Our cat went missing one yr at August bank hol and returned on bonfire night a skinny, mucky, flea bag with dread locks. He was so glad to be home he let us cut his hair.

Aw, Gypsy! How sweet. I bet he felt so much better, they hate being ungroomed don't they?
Effie sounds as if she scared herself whilst on her adventures.
When mine escaped ( he is supposed to stay in as he is deaf), he was gone for weeks and out in all that dreadful hail last year. When I got him back I had to hold his paw all night so he would sleep. If I let go he woke up and made sure I held him again. He has shown no interest at all in leaving the house since.
They are very good at looking after themselves when they have to, but I think it must be very scarey for them at times. I think because my cat is deaf he was too scared to sleep properly outside, he must be extra vulnerable when he is sleeping, with only his sense of smell or the feeling of movement to alert him to danger and that was why he needed reassuring he was safe when he came back.
I do know he can cope though as he had been a stray for quite a while when the rescue centre got him.    :)
