I haven't, but I would think like most fruit bushes\shrubs, it would be easier to take hardwood cuttings.  Cuttings always produce plants that fruit quickly, seed produced plants can be very variable  :)

Don't pay for seed! I'll happily send you some when I go sloe collecting in a month or so.

I'll second that.  I've got four b'currant bushes from the one my son gave me and I'm going for more!

Aint nature grand.   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Better than that, blackthorn spreads by suckers to form its dense thickets. Dig a sucker out and plant it.

Thank you everyone I will look for suckers and failing that borrow a few twigs, I took cuttings from my blackcurrant and they've took surprisingly well!

No idea - but if you have a daytrip to London, please swing by and take some of mine! I have masses popping up, as does my neighbour. Both of us would like to be rid!

You need to make sure you dig out plenty of the fibrous roots, and keep the newly planted bush/stick well watered for a few weeks. Best time is after the leaves have fallen off in the Autumn.
