I just use more of them. I use three instead of two for cakes or Yorkies, you can fit two on a sandwich as they are so fresh and compact, make mayo for your egg mayonnaise using an extra yolk. Even my older girls lay small eggs, you just adapt.

You can do so much with eggs. The only reason we have any surplus is because I am a vegetarian and am struggling to eat the eggs with having a cockerel. I am ok eating them in things, but not as mayo (which uses raw eggs) or soft cooked, or even in a sandwich. We are hoping some of the Shumen chicks will be hens so that Sevi can have just Shumen (they are not his babies) and I can have my girls back. At the moment, with him being young and virile, I think the two Shumen girls would have trouble keeping him happy. which might mean them going back to being baldies! :D

Tosca  - the 'How much do you sell your eggs for' thread in Chicken Chat has an article on when eggs become fertile which may be of use to you. It is on page three of the thread. Sorry but I have not figured how to do links on my Kindle. The last post on page four would not apply to you as you control use of your eggs. Hope this helps.

Hi,i  really scramble my eggs for mayo, like you im not a raw egg fan,i wont try to do  poached eggs incase the whites arnt cooked through enough :)
I got extra warrens in for sid ..and also for more eggs  :) as i had read a cockrel needs about 10 hens to keep him and them happy,i will extend the run when the others 3 are old enough to join the main coop that will make 14 hens for him  ...and more baking for me

now September is here I will again start to freeze my girls eggs as last year I was down to just 2 eggs a day and think this year they will be 0 eggs a day. My girls are all over 3 so they will soon start to slow down. If your hens are younger then they should continue to lay through this winter and possibly next winter too.
Julie you may find your chickens lay bigger eggs when they become hens rather than pullets (when they reach 1 year old).
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks for that info Joyfull. The Shumens are about 15 months and my five girls have only been laying 4 weeks or so (didn't know how old they were when we got them) so hopefully they will continue to lay a few. I will freeze some if we get a glut we can't cope with.

Ive been busy making yorkie puds for the freezer today and made the kids some cupcakes so im down to 3 small eggs left tonight yay
Then made salsa using excess tomatoes from greenhouse
My 1st 4 hens i got are supposed to be 13months old but i dont seem to get many eggs, maybe 2 a day if im lucky!but i suppose its been a roller coster for them since i got them...,ive added the white sussex hens, then the cockrel and then 5 more pullets within a 6 week period, theyre prob fed up with all the changes poor lasses  :(
