Chicken hands
« on: August 31, 2013, 10:54 »
Got an off colour 5 year old chook at the moment.  Not sure what's wrong but she was in the run roosting next to the feeder last night having not made it to bed.  Put her in the coop overnight, but she wasn't great this morning, so she is in a box in the dining room at the mo.

She has perked up and I've got her eating.  She's a bit thin, but they go downhill fast if they don't eat properly for a couple of days.  Can hear her pecking at food every 15 mins or so  :)

She did have a mucky bum though and have cleaned this up for her.  She's been completely calm and unworried so far, but the sight of rubber gloves set her off. Oh that's just great, but seeing as its you  ::)  Washed my hands about 5 times now though and can't quite shift the great smell of chicken  :tongue2:  Poultry keepers will know exactly what I mean

May have to go to the plot and find some grot to handle at this rate

Bit of a sad end to this one.  After 2 days of steadily perking up and sitting regally in her box eating everything in sight, poor little chook went downhill fast this morning.  In the end the kindest thing was to put an end to it  :(

Not sure what was up.  No lumps and bumps anywhere there shouldn't be, crop and vent were fine.  She had a happy five years, but just her time I guess  :(

sorry to read that. It is a very hard choice to make, especially as they get older.
