trying Kosma
« on: October 10, 2011, 20:46 »
i was looking through my seed catalogue when a variety of onion took my eye its claimed this white bulbing variety produces high yields of globe shaped medium sized bulbs sweet flavour for spring or autumn so-wings going to set my seed in the spring

we grow quite a patch of onions each year to last over the winter and into spring my wife always ties them on a string to hang up that was my dads way of keeping his onions

i like a good onion but it doesn't like me onions it tends to act more as a laxative than a veg these days so i thought this variety would not be quite so strong has anyone been growing this variety and how do you rate it or have you found another variety of the same growing medium

Sorry but I have not heard of this one and usually grow mine from sets anyway.

Let us know how it goes  :D

As Sunny implies, it's not that you've been ignored, just that no one can answer your question. Looks like you're the pathfinder!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

 DD /sunny  and all
please don't take offence at what i say its only my dry hummer  and so ime the pathfinder :)
your probably rite saying that because if its anything like my attempts at growing onions from seed then please LOL

so it is going to be a challenge and yes i will update all if this variety is any good or maybe  only fit for the compost bin i must admit my main onion crop is from setts is this cheating or what
i suppose a professional onion grower grows from seed then ime still leaning  :D :D

I grew Kosma from seed sowed August/September 2011 and harvested last year along with Senshyu Yellow from seed.  They look like spring onion (green top with a white bulb), the bulb shape is slightly flattened rather than globe.  With such a wet spring/summer in 2012, both onions from seeds were on the small side so not really a good year to compare but they were very hardy and I'd certainly grow them again.
